Attorney Brenda Moses discusses how medical treatment and billing is handled in workers’ compensation cases.

There are no co-pays in workers’ compensation.  However, the insurance carrier will only pay medical bills from your authorized workers’ compensation doctor – unfortunately you can’t go to whichever doctor you want.  Workers’ compensation won’t pay the medical bills if you see a doctor that they have not authorized. In an accepted workers’ compensation case, you should have been offered a panel of at least three doctors to choose from, and treatment goes from there.  However, often an injured worker isn’t offered a panel, even though they are supposed to be, because the carrier wants to control the medical treatment the injured worker gets.  If your case has been denied, you can begin treatment with a physician of your choosing. While it can be difficult to change a treating physician in workers’ compensation, if you are not getting the medical treatment you need, contact us.
